Frederick LeFlore is a proud native of Durant, Mississippi, in rural Holmes County. With 25 years in education, he has served students and schools as a teacher’s aide, teacher, assistant principal, principal, and co-founder of S.E.E.D., a nonprofit devoted to supporting at-risk learners across Mississippi.

Frederick’s writing grows from real life, especially the childhood memories that inspired Chef Maurice. He shares his world with his wife of 28 years, Mary Katherine, and their two children, Collin Xavier and Hannah Elizabeth, whose love and laughter continue to fuel the stories he tells.

I just finished reading "Welcome to Mr. Florence's Class by Frederick LeFlore. Two things: His artwork was amazing. Kudos to the illustrator. Second: I think this book should be read not only by children but by primary educators alike. It shows what can happen when a teacher, excited by his profession, takes a personal interest in his students, seeing beyond their facades, right into their potentials. Every child needs a Mr. Florence. Let's see if you can top this one, Mr. LeFlore.

"Welcome to Mr. Florence's Class" was an extremely great read that I would definitely recommend to anyone with you children. It describes several very important themes about many of the challenges that students and teachers face on a daily basis. I really enjoyed how dynamic the storyline was and how each of the characters had an opportunity to grow and learn an important lesson by the end of the book. I can't wait to read more about Mr. Florence and his students adventures at Rosey Elementary!
